Title

MIKE'S CHILI PARLOR

Subject

Greek Restaurants

Description

In the new photo, Mike Semandiris stands in front of this fourth-generation landmark tavern in Ballard which serves a chili sauce with original Greek flavoring. Opened by his great grandfather, Mike’s is one of an endangered breed of restaurants (the urban chili parlor) and has survived for over 98 years surrounded by development in the trendy, gentrifying Ballard neighborhood. One must be 21 years old to visit and cannot order a tuna-fish sandwich. It sports a blue-collar atmosphere where a sign reads “Mexican with a touch of Chicago and a pinch of old Greece.”
